Observational drawing is such a fun and calming art project to do with the tamariki. It’s actually very magical, No picture was the same.
Observational drawing is a process of looking for shapes and colors to encourage concentration and conversation about what the child see. This is exactly what the tamariki were doing when they used the picture of the transformer we copied from the internet as a guide to draw their own transformer. There were conversations about the shapes of the legs, arms and body of the transformer. We had printed off different transformers, so there were different colours as well.
this learning moment recognises and builds on strengths and interests of the tamariki demonstrate throughout the centre. This has allow them to make their own unique contribution to not only their learning but learning for their friends as well.
